Dominica 2023 Hurricane Season

Roseau, Monday, June 12th, 2023 – As the 2023 hurricane season commences, the Dominica
Association of Industry and Commerce (DAIC) urges the private sector to be proactive and take all necessary measures to ensure their business continuity whilst also protecting the lives of all their employees.

For the past year, the DAIC, which is a member of the Caribbean Chamber of Commerce (CARICHAM), has supported the launch of the Centre of Excellence (COE). This is a resource that provides Businesses with information geared towards survival in any economy. With regards to natural disasters, the COE offers resources on Multi-Hazard Early Warning Systems that will assist in strengthening the private sector’s resilience through focusing on monitoring, assessing and understanding risks relating to disasters. Early Warning Systems (EWS) are Critical Tools and Resources for Regional Institutions in disaster risk management, to learn more, visit:  https://coe.caribbeanchambers.net/multi-hazard-early-warning-systems/

In addition to the above, DAIC encourages all businesses to review and update their Business Continuity Plans (BCPs). It recommends that special consideration should be given to the most vulnerable employees or employees with vulnerable family members during the review and updating of the BCP. If an organisation does not have a BCP, the template, created by CARICHAM, can be accessed at the following link: https://www.caribbeanchambers.net/caricham-bcp.

Though we all hope for a peaceful hurricane season, the Chamber encourages all to remain vigilant and follow regular updates throughout the season from the Office of Disaster Management.
